A wiener dog has gained viral attention after he carried his own bed outside to bask in the summer sunshine.
In a clip posted on TikTok by @reggiethewiener that has 1.9 million views so far, Reggie the dachshund, determined and adorable, can be seen dragging his snug dog bed through the house and out into the garden. Once there, he carefully places it in a sun-drenched spot before settling down comfortably.
Dachshunds are known for their low-to-the-ground stature, and they often feel the cold more acutely than other breeds. Sunbathing is a favorite pastime for many of these little dogs, as it helps them soak up warmth and stay cozy.
As well as keeping them warm and comfortable, sunlight triggers the release of serotonin in dogs—just like in humans. This hormone promotes happiness and well-being.
While dogs do love sunbathing and catching some rays, it is important to remember that just like humans, the sun’s rays can harm our canine friends. Dogs can suffer from sunburn and are susceptible to skin cancer, particularly when they have lighter fur. Recommendations for protecting dogs from the sun include limiting exposure, using pet-friendly sunscreen, and even protective clothing.
The little dachshund finding his own perfect sunbathing spot delighted viewers on TikTok who rushed to share their reactions in the comments.
“Blimey, I’ve got a little sun worshipper (Jack Russell) but she hasn’t quite mastered taking her bed out just yet,” Rhian said.
While Foxtrotter humorously noted, “they’re solar powered!”
Others seriously related to Reggie’s desire to be in the sunshine. “Definitely my spirit animal,” said Andy. While Sharon added: “I’m the same.”
“My dachshund would just grumble at me until I put it there,” fellow pet owner Recoil 762 said. Ells concluded with, “that’s so funny hahaha he’s still gotta be comfy.”
This isn’t the only time a sunbathing dog has gained viral attention. Last year, a corgi melted hearts when he found the perfect sleeping spot among a flower bed in the sunshine. Earlier this year, a golden retriever enjoyed a moment in the sunshine on the beach in a video on TikTok.
