Ukraine’s military intelligence agency destroyed a Russian MiG-31 and two cargo planes in an attack on a military airfield deep inside Russia earlier this month, according to Ukrainian media.

A further five Russian aircraft were damaged in Ukrainian drone attacks on the Savasleyka military airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region east of Moscow, several Ukrainian outlets reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources in Kyiv’s GUR military spy agency.

The attack, carried out on August 16, destroyed a MiG-31K or MiG-31I, according to media reports, and two Il-76 aircraft at the base.

Ukraine had also attacked the Savasleyka base three days earlier, reports from the time indicated.

Kyiv damaged a fuel warehouse and a MiG-31 jet in this previous attack, according to Ukrainian media.
