The latest versions of Samsung’s flagship smartphone lineup will be here soon.
Samsung officially unveiled several versions of its Galaxy range at the January event Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose, California on Jan. 22.
The company announced the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25, showcasing its top smartphone options.
‘Context-aware’ AI
Samsung drew attention to the phone’s artificial intelligence (AI) companion, calling it, “Our most natural and context-aware mobile experiences ever created”, in a press release.
“The greatest innovations are a reflection of their users, which is why we evolved Galaxy AI to help everyone interact with their devices more naturally and effortlessly while trusting that their privacy is secured,” Tae Moon Roh, president of Sansung’s mobile division, said in the release.
“Galaxy S25 series opens the door to an AI-integrated [operating system] that fundamentally shifts how we use technology and how we live our lives.”
How the AI Works
The AI in the Galaxy S25 Ultra is powered by Samsung’s One UI 7 and Google’s Gemini 2.0 AI engine.
One UI 7 is Samsung’s latest operating system, designed to make smartphones more intuitive, personalized and AI-driven.
The interface aims to allow for natural communication with the device, using voice commands to search for specific photos or adjust settings. The AI capabilities can process and respond to text, speech and images.
One UI 7 also includes tools like Call Transcript for summarizing phone conversations, Writing Assist for formatting text and Drawing Assist for creative projects.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra
The Galaxy S25 Ultra boasts a 6.9-inch AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate for vivid visuals and easy scrolling.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, Samsung says the device offers a 40% improvement in neural processing, as well as significant boosts for central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) performance.
Privacy
According to Samsung, the new Galaxy offerings prioritize user privacy with advanced measures built into its AI-powered ecosystem.
The devices use a Personal Data Engine to analyze user data directly on the device, eliminating the need for cloud-based processing and ensuring a secure, private experience.
Features like personalized recommendations, natural language photo searches and contextual app suggestions are tailored to individual usage patterns without exposing sensitive information to external servers.
All personal data is apparently safeguarded by Samsung’s Knox Vault, which includes post-quantum cryptography.
“Because there is no privacy without holistic security, One UI 7 laid the groundwork for these innovations by introducing an extra, fortified layer of device safety designed for the age of AI and hyper-connectivity,” the company said in the release.
Sustainability and Design
Samsung says it prioritized sustainability in the Galaxy S25 series, incorporating recycled materials into the devices.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra features a titanium frame and Corning Gorilla Armor 2 for scratch resistance and durability.
Pricing and Availability
Pre-orders for the Galaxy S25 series are open now, with general availability starting on Feb 7.
Pricing starts at $1,299.99 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra with 256 gigabytes of storage.
