The San Antonio Spurs are off to a stellar start this season, and they’ve managed to stay afloat at times without superstar Victor Wembanyama.
On Saturday night, San Antonio earned a thrilling 134–132 win over the New York Knicks to improve to 24–9 on the season, with Wembanyama leading the way with 31 points and 13 rebounds.
However, he exited the game after suffering what was deemed a hyperextended knee—an injury that recently sidelined Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic for an extended period.
Fortunately for the Spurs, Wembanyama underwent an MRI on Thursday, which reportedly revealed no ligament damage, according to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright.

While he will not travel with the team to Indianapolis for Friday night’s game, he is listed as questionable for Saturday’s matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers. That is an extremely positive sign, suggesting he avoided a serious injury and could return to the court in the coming days.
Since his rookie season, Wembanyama has been one of the NBA’s best players when healthy. That said, he has also dealt with his share of injuries and unfortunate circumstances, including a blood clot in his shoulder last season that forced him to miss the entire second half of the year.
This season, Wembanyama has appeared in 21 of the Spurs’ 33 games and is averaging 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.9 blocks per game while shooting 52.5% from the field and 36.5% from beyond the arc.
