Nina Dobrev and Zac Efron are not an item — despite their recent, cozy vacation photos.
“Nina and Zac are not dating and have been good friends for over a decade,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “Their friends always joke that they should date, but that is not what is going on. They have been there for each other through many phases of life and have always had each other’s back.”
The insider adds that Dobrev, 36, “has been leaning on her family and friends recently” amid her recent split from Shaun White.
“[She] has truly felt a lot of love and support,” the source continues. “Everyone has been lifting her spirits and she has been in a better place after taking some time away following her split from Shaun.”
Us reached out to reps for Dobrev and Efron, 37, for comment.
Speculation about the nature of Dobrev and Efron’s relationship came after the pair was spotted spending plenty of time together in recent days. On Saturday, September 20, they both attended crypto billionaire Brad Garlinghouse‘s wedding in the South of France.
Dobrev and Efron made separate appearances in mutual friend Keleigh Teller’s Instagram Stories from the nuptials, which took place at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, according to The Daily Mail. In one photo, Keleigh, 32, walked hand-in-hand with both Dobrev and husband Miles Teller as they carried lace fans and parasols. Another snap showed Efron fanning himself as he posed alongside Miles, 38.
Garlinghouse, 54, the CEO of financial technology company Ripple Labs, married dietitian Tara Milsti on Saturday. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin served as the wedding singer at the reception, performing the band’s hit “Yellow” for the couple’s first dance.
Last week, Dobrev and Efron were photographed onboard a yacht with Chase Crawford, Keleigh and Miles. Snaps shared by Deuxmoi on Saturday showed the Vampire Diaries alum wearing a floral dress as she chatted with the High School Musical star, who sported a white backwards cap and white button-up shirt. The pair were all smiles as they looked at something on her phone.
On September 18, the Daily Mail published photos of Dobrev and Efron swimming in the sea just off the Italian coastline. The Originals actress wore a plunging cutout swimsuit, while the 17 Again alum opted for black swim trunks. They were once again joined by Keleigh, Miles, Chace, 40, and Chace’s girlfriend, Kelsey Merritt.
The outings come more than one week after Dobrev and White, 39, ended their engagement after five years together.
People was the first to report the split on September 11.
Rumors circulated that infidelity was to blame for their breakup, but a source close to the former couple exclusively told Us on September 12 that neither cheated during their time together.
“There was no cheating at all during the course of their five-and-a-half-year relationship,” the insider said. “They were very loyal to each other. Any online speculation that suggests otherwise is ridiculous.”
A source also exclusively told Us on September 15 that Dobrev is “devastated” by the split. The insider noted that she and White, who announced their engagement in October 2024, had “finally started planning the wedding and things were in motion.”
“At the end of the day, they’re human beings, just like everyone else,” a source exclusively told Us on September 19. “They genuinely just grew apart and realized they would be better off just as friends and not husband and wife.”
