We’re going back to black and back to balance, my babies.

The new moon in Libra arrives on October 21 at 8:25 AM EST, and this Venus-ruled lunation ain’t afraid to get ugly.

This new moon officially closes the eclipse portal we’ve been white knuckling our way through as of late, but the exit shan’t be gentle as the moon will square both Jupiter (expansion) and Pluto (reckoning).

Under the dark sky of this moon, we are asked, neigh cosmically coerced into addressing that which we’ve politely (Libra) been trying to bury, sweep or stuff in a metaphorical duffel bag.

This new moon asks, “How much bigger (Jupiter) does the issue have to get before you finally face it (Pluto)?”

Lord, there’s more.

The new moon in Libra forms an opposition to Chiron, our apex pain point, currently retrograding in Aries.

Chiron, known as the wounded healer, is our agent of transformation through trauma.

As Libra is the sign of partnership and the moon represents our emotional interiority, this opposition suggests that all our patterned intimacy issues — cleverly side-stepped with hyper-independence, self-betrayal, conflict avoidance, strategic fawning and covert codependence — will come gasping for air and attention.

The new moon in Libra asks, ‘are you dating a person or a pattern?’

Are you dating a person or a pattern? If you keep coming back to the same issues, the answer is likely the latter and the problem is probably you.

This dark moon throws a glaring light on the toxic tales we tell ourselves to avoid, excuse or explain abandonment, betrayal and rejection.

This is pain with a purpose, folks, here to show us where we need mending and to illustrate how the ways we’ve been hurt can incite how we heal ourselves in and through our relationships with others.

But there’s a light, or a scorpion tail, at the bottom of this well.

The day before the new moon, Mars and Mercury join forces in Scorpio, giving us all a push towards the deep end and an edge when it comes to addressing and correcting whatever we’ve been passing off as fine, even, and especially as it’s eating us alive.

Scorpio is never satisfied with the surface, so dive in until you get to where it hurts. Now keep going.

Libra is often reduced to a pretty people pleaser. Still, the highest expression of the sign is not a schmoozing, smoothing diplomat but a conductor, one who can hear the discordant and gather it into a single, harmonious sound.

Libra is not about maintaining balance, but restoring peace.

Etymologically, the word peace traces itself back to a Proto-Indo-European root meaning to fasten.

In this sense, peace is not something to be sought, but made, not a courteous compromise but a purposeful joining of forces.

Lest we forget, Libra is the sword as much as the scale, and this new moon wants you to fight for the feeling of peace and the place in the world you justly deserve. How to fight the righteous fight? Only and ever through honest conversations and the uncomfortable condition of growth.

This new moon isn’t interested in your carefully maintained equilibrium. It wants transformation, and it’s not taking no for an answer.

While we’ll all be under the influence of this moon, three signs in particular will feel the cold steel of the blade and the scales most acutely.

Holy hellfire, Aries! This new moon is activating your seventh house of trusted partnerships.

Gird your loins for some real talk and a few revelations about how you show up in your relationships.

As the fist born sign in the zodiac your default mode is solo act. However, true change comes through true challenge and you’re being asked to come through as a collaborator, one who can integrate the opinions of others without raising hell or hackles.

You don’t need to dim or dampen your fire, just make room around it.

Ahoy, Cancer!

The new moon in Libra comes knocking on the cellar door of your fourth house of home, roots and ancesty. This sectior is something of your emo bedrock and this new moon is a summons to redefine what security means for you.

Are you clinging to a version of the past, to people or even to a home base that has long since ceased to feel safe or nurturing? Are you more afraid of the wild unknown than the static same?

Comfort is a cage baby, and it’s time to get loose.

Whether you’re carrying dead weight in the form of an expired relationship or the physcial detritis of something or someone you’ve outgorwn, pony up and purge on. Ask yourself: Where am I settling and how is that selling myself short on true sanctuary?

With a new moon in your sign and your first house of the self, Libra the time is nigh for reinvention. Who have you been too polite to become? Enough of that bowing and bending, pleading and pleasing. You don’t need permission my friend, you need space.

The energy of this moon wants you to choose what makes you feel good, not what you think will serve the greater or geatest good. Paradoxically, if you lead with what you need and get it your better resourced to serve others from a place of agency rather than resentment.
