Thousands of children’s soft toys, sold by Hobby Lobby—which is a U.S.-based retail chain specializing in arts and crafts supplies—have been recalled due to a choking hazard, according to an announcement made by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on January 20, 2026.
The CPSC—which says that “choking has long been the leading cause of toy-related deaths to young children”—has designated this recall as a “Fast Track Recall,” which indicates that Hobby Lobby moved quickly with the agency to address the issue and remove the products from the market.
Details About the Recalled Soft Toys
The recall covers two separate soft toy products: A giraffe plush toy with a clip and a llama plush toy with a clip. Both were imported by Hobby Lobby Stores from Chinese manufacturers.
The Giraffe Plush Toy
The giraffe plush toy measures about 9 inches long, has a yellow body, orange and blue legs with multicolored paws, black-and-white animal print ears, and a yellow claw clip.
It can be identified by either one of these product numbers: HL699436 or HL731481, which are printed on the white sewn-in label. The affected product also has the number “2553675” printed in the left corner of the hang tag label, according to the CPSC notice.
The Llama Plush Toy
The llama plush toy is about 12 inches long, has a white body, a mirror, orange and yellow legs with multicolored paws, and a small orange triangular-shaped teething accessory and green claw clip attached to it. The recalled llama toy has the code HL699436 on the white sewn-in label and the number 2553634 on the hang tag.
Both products were sold nationwide at Hobby Lobby stores and on hobbylobby.com from May 2025 through December 2025 for about $6 for the giraffe and $8 for the llama.
The CPSC reports that, in total, around 21,230 giraffe and llama plush toys with clips have been recalled.
Why the Soft Toys Have Been Recalled
The CPSC states that both toys have been recalled because the legs of both can be pulled off. If this happens, small beads that are inside each leg will be released, potentially posing a choking hazard to young children, especially for infants and toddlers who may put small parts in their mouths.
At the time of publishing, the CPSC said there had been one report of a leg detaching, releasing the small beads, but no injuries had been reported.
What Customers Should Do if They Have the Recalled Toy
The CPSC has advised consumers to stop using the recalled toys immediately, to mitigate any risk of choking, and to return them to their nearest Hobby Lobby store for a full refund.
Consumers can contact Hobby Lobby for more information at 800-326-7931 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at customer.service@hobbylobby.com, or online via the retailer’s recall page.
