Tia Mowry is setting the record straight about her relationship with her twin sister, Tamera Mowry.
“Everybody thought that there was this huge rift or distance, and that was not the case,” Tia, 47, told Entertainment Tonight in an interview clip shared via Instagram on Tuesday, December 16. “The world, they’re so used to seeing all of us together, but at the end of the day, we all grow up. We all have our own families. Yes, there’s distance, because we all are doing our own thing, but when something is important to you, or when it is a priority, you will make time for it.”
Tia revealed that she and Tamera, 47, “made a pact” to “reach out to each other once a week” on Sundays.
“So as long as we make time for each other, that’s all that matters,” she added.
The Very Vintage Christmas star also revealed what she admires most about her twin, noting that Tamera is “a great mother” to son Aden, 13, and daughter Ariah, 10, whom she shares with husband Adam Housley. (Tia is a mom herself, sharing son Cree, 14, and daughter Cairo, 7, with ex-husband Cory Hardrict.)
“It’s not easy having ambitions and doing what you love to do, and trying to juggle all of that at the same time,” Tia told the outlet. “You know, she’s doing her best to be present for her kids, and she’s doing a great job. I have incredible nieces and nephews. So, yeah, I would say she’s an incredible mother. I’m inspired by that.”
Tia and Tamera grew up in the spotlight together, first gaining recognition on the ABC/WB sitcom Sister, Sister. The sisters went on to star together in the films Seventeen Again (2000), Twitches (2005) and its sequel, Twitches Too (2007). Additionally, Tia and Tamera were featured in their own eponymous reality series from 2011 to 2013.
Tia and Tamera maintained a close relationship through the years, even serving as each other’s maids of honor. However, Tia alarmed fans in September 2024 when she stated in the trailer for her WeTV docuseries, Tia Mowry: My Next Act, that she wished she and her sister “were still close.”
“[I wish] I could pick up the phone and call her, but that’s just not where we are right now,” she said at the time.
Tia later clarified exclusively to Us Weekly that she was referring to the physical distance between her and Tamera and how it affected their bond.
“You could hear it from me, and this is basically what I was insinuating: I feel like as we grow up, we all start our own families and their children need to lean on them. We begin to take on new roles and responsibilities within our lives,” she explained. “That is what that was all about.”
The Mistle-Tones star added that while some of her relatives — including brother Tahj Mowry and father Timothy Mowry — live in Los Angeles, Tamera and her family live in Napa. (Their other brother, Tavior Mowry, lives in Tennessee.)
“In these transitions in life, sometimes you just want a hug and you just want someone to be as accessible as they used to be, and that is not the case,” Tia, who finalized her divorce from Hardrict, 46, in 2023, concluded. “It’s called life.”
