Titans head coach Brian Callahan said earlier this week that Awuzie would be a candidate for the injured reserve, and that ended up being the case on Friday.

Awuzie will miss the team’s next four games but will be eligible to return to action after their Week 9 matchup against the New England Patriots. The Titans have an early bye week this season, having a Week 5 bye.

Teenesee’s next four games are with the Miami Dolphins this Monday night, the Indianapolis Colts, the Buffalo Bills, and the Detroit Lions.

To fill the 53-man roster spot, the Titans have signed linebacker Luke Gifford. He was elevated on a temporary basis for the first three games of the season and saw action on special teams.

The Titans have also signed defensive lineman McTelvin Agim to the practice squad.

Through three games thus far this season, Awuzie has collected four combo tackles, three of them being solo tackles and one assist. This is his first season with the Titans after he spent the last three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

In three seasons in Cincinnati, he collected 156 total tackles, six tackles for loss, two interceptions that he returned for 42 yards, two forced fumbles, and one fumbled recovery in 37 games and 32 starts.

Awuzie signed a one-year contract with the Bengals. He recorded his first career playoff interception against Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford at the beginning of the third quarter in Super Bowl 56.

This isn’t Awuzie’s first time on the injured reserve. He suffered a torn ACL in 2022, which cut short his season. That year, he played in eight games and recorded five passes defended and 29 tackles.

Last season, his final with the Bengals, Awuzie recorded 57 total tackles and two tackles for loss.

Prior to his time with the Bengals and Titans, the Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, with the No. 60 overall pick. Awuzie spent the first four years of his career in Dallas.

He was drafted out of the University of Colorado and was named to the second-team All-Pac-12 twice. The Titans are going to miss Awuzie’s presence as they are ranked eighth in opponent pass play percentage, second in the opponent completion percentage, fourth in opponent yards per pass, and third in opponent passing yards per game.
