Tom Dumont just shared some pretty shocking news with fans, but he’s not letting it slow him down.

The No Doubt guitarist revealed in a Saturday, April 11, Instagram video that he was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease “a number of years ago.” The 58-year-old said the diagnosis came after extensive testing with a neurologist, after experiencing “a number of symptoms” and he’s been candid about the toll it has taken. “It’s a struggle every day,” he said.

Despite the challenges, there is a silver lining. “The good news is, I can still play music, I can still play guitar, I’ve been doing really well,” Dumont revealed, making it clear he’s not ready to step away from music. He confirmed he has every intention of performing at No Doubt’s upcoming Las Vegas residency at the Sphere, which kicks off May 6. Preparing for the residency, he said, has given him time to reflect on his decades-long career and feel grateful for the life he’s built in music.

As for why he decided to go public now, Dumont said he’s been inspired by others who have shared their own health journeys. “I think it helps erase some of the stigma and helps raise awareness, obviously,” he said, before thanking everyone for listening.

The response from his bandmates was immediate, too. Drummer Adrian Young called him a “hero,” while bassist Tony Kanal commented, “Love you beyond words my friend. Can’t wait to get on stage with you again.”

Backup vocalist Gabrial McNair said, “You are such a beautiful soul, Tom!! I love you so much and can’t wait get on stage with you!! LFG!!”

At this time, lead singer Gwen Stefani has yet to comment.
