President Donald Trump was asked about the disappearance case of Nancy Guthrie onboard Air Force One Friday night, and he said in part that “we have some clues I think that are very strong,” adding that “we could have some answers coming up fairly soon.”

Why It Matters

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for several days. The disappearance and search have since sparked nationwide attention. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said items at the scene indicated Guthrie did not leave “on her own.”

What To Know

While speaking to reporters, Trump said, “I think we’re doing very well on that regard … Very well meaning, we have some clues I think that are very strong. And I think we could have some answers coming up fairly soon.”

“We have some things, I think that will maybe come out reasonably soon, from DOJ or FBI, or whoever, that could be, could be definitive. A lot has taken place in the last couple of hours. A lot of things have happened with regard to that horrible situation in the last couple of hours,” the president said.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI said earlier Friday evening that they are aware of “a new message” regarding Nancy Guthrie and are “actively inspecting the information” for authenticity.

In another post to X, the sheriff’s department said it is now conducting “follow-up” at the Guthrie home and surrounding areas, while noting that the road in front of the home is currently restricted “to provide investigators space.”

Local news station in Tucson, KOLD, reported the note appeared intended to show that it came from the same sender as an earlier message and included sensitive information, CNN reported. The originating IP address differed but used a similar secure server, according to the station’s account.

“The new note, which law enforcement called a message and not a ransom note, contains information the senders seem to think will prove to investigators they are the suspects,” reported KOLD. The local station noted that it was not releasing details out of respect to the Guthrie family.

Newsweek previously reached out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for additional information on Friday and it said that there was none to provide, and there is not a new media briefing scheduled “at this time.”

What People Are Saying

Trump, on Truth Social Wednesday: “I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY. We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely. The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”
