The Los Angeles Angels are not expected to be a contending team this season. They made some bargain signings this offseason, but they still appear to be the doormat of the American League West.

Over the winter, they signed veteran utility man Chris Taylor to a minor league contract. Taylor was an All-Star and two-time World Series champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The veteran performed well in spring training, hitting posting a .388 on-base percentage and a .798 OPS in 52 plate appearances. However, he did not make the opening day roster for the Halos. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Taylor’s time with the Halos has come to an end

“Chris Taylor opted out of his deal with the Angels and has been informed he will not make the club, source tells The Athletic,” Rosenthal posted on X.

Taylor can play all three outfield positions and serve as a utility infielder, so his omission from the Angels’ opening day roster is a little surprising, especially considering his offensive stats in spring training.

The 35-year-old spent parts of 10 seasons with the Dodgers before being claimed by the Angels late last season. The Angels brought him back on a minor league deal for 2026.

However, it appears that his time in an Angels uniform has come to an end. However, given his spring numbers, there is a chance that he could end up with a contending team at some point this season.
