Charlie Kirk murder suspect Tyler Robinson attended a court hearing in Utah on Monday but was not shown on screen, unlike his first appearance on September 16, local media reported.
The procedural session confirmed Robinson’s new defense counsel, led by attorney Kathryn Nester, and addressed scheduling matters.
Legal analyst Randolph Rice, managing partner at Rice Law, told Utah news outlet ABC4: “One thing to keep in mind here is if they’re going to pick a jury for this case, they want jurors to know as little about the case as possible. So, the less times that they have Tyler Robinson on video in that suicide smock, that helps them with less information that potential jurors could see uh and ultimately taint that jury pool.”
Defense lawyers requested additional time to review what they described as extensive discovery before a preliminary hearing is set. Prosecutors reiterated plans to seek the death penalty.
Judge Tony Graf set the next court date for October 30.
Robinson remains held without bond on charges including aggravated murder in connection with the September 10 killing of Kirk. No plea was entered.
