Welcoming a newborn into a home with other children can be overwhelming, but one mom’s 3-year-old quickly put her at ease, assuring her that everything would be OK.

Mom-of-five Ellie Owens, 36, recently shared a montage of clips to Instagram (@fleurdellie) that show how her 2-year-old daughter, Dangy’s commitment to being a big sister.

The heartwarming footage quickly went viral earning over 1 million views and almost 19,500 likes since it was posted on September 27.

Owens, from Connecticut but living in Denmark, told Newsweek: “She is always very conscious of them when they are around, wants to hold them a lot, and is usually the first one to hear them cry.”

According to 2023 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were 110,393 twin births in the United States, along with 2,505 triplet births and 148 quadruplet or higher-order births.

This equates to a twin birth rate of 30.7 per 1,000 live births. The rate for triplets and higher-order multiples was 73.8 per 100,000 live births.

The footage shows Dangy running into the living room and asking, “where are those new babies?” She then holds both of them separately and gives her newborn brother, Rune, a kiss.

Instantly, she takes an interest in her new sister Solvej and requests to hold her again. Then she observes them in their double rocking hammock while her dad jokingly asks if she will take care of her, put her to sleep, and even change her diaper. To which Dangy doesn’t hesitate and says yes to all.

The next scene shows the toddler crying because she can’t hold the baby while she sleeps, followed by an adorable clip of her holding her sister and pointing out: “this is the one that cries.”

More videos show Dangy rubbing Rune’s belly and feeding him with a bottle.

The text layered over the heartwarming clip explains: “I knew I was getting two babies but they didn’t know they were getting a second mom.”

Owens told Newsweek that Dangy accompanied her to the ultrasound when she found out it was twins.

“She was very excited to be at the doctor’s office with me,” she said. “She would always be mad at me if she found out I went to another check-up without her.”

“She was made to be a big sister!” said one commenter. Another agreed: “So maternal and empathizing. I love that big sis.”

Another user said: “This tender, warm, gentle video with its very strong emotions makes me tear up a bit.”

“This is just the sweetest!” wrote a fourth commenter.
