Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is looking to private investment for the proposed “tourist attraction” refurbishment of Brisbane’s Mount Coot-tha and Pine Mountain quarries.
Keeping in line with 20-year plans to invest in Brisbane’s cultural infrastructure, the quarries will be refurbished into publicly accessible amenities.

Mount Coot-tha site candidate PRAX Studios released architectural renderings of its proposal earlier this week, offering an outdoor events space, South Bank-style lagoon area, and an eco resort.
Schrinner pointed to previous projects, including South Bank and Howard Smith Wharves, as leading examples of pooling private business and taxpayer funding for public spaces.
“We want a big vision here, but we also need a way of making sure that there’s funding that contributes to that vision so that ratepayers don’t have to fork out all of the costs of creating these amazing destinations,” he said.
