There is no plant in the landscape as stunning as hydrangeas. There, I said it, and I stand by it. They’re a truly show-stopping (yet surprisingly low-maintenance) option for so many different environments, from coastal to mountainous.
And thanks to my love of hydrangeas, the following news was some of the most exciting I could receive: there’s a new hydrangea variety coming in 2025 that will surely knock your socks off.
Meet FlowerFull, a smooth-leaf hydrangea that boasts two to three times more blooms than other varieties.
Please take a moment to admire its beauty, and read on for everything you need to know about adding this to your landscape.

Though FlowerFull will be available at a nursery or hardware store near you in spring 2025, it has been in the works for many years from the masterminds at Bailey Nurseries (the growers behind Endless Summer Hydrangeas).
We spoke to Ryan McEnaney, Bailey Nurseries’ marketing and communications manager, to share what makes this variety a must-have in any hydrangea lover’s landscape.
What Makes FlowerFull So Special?

First Editions® Shrubs & Trees
FlowerFull solves lots of common hydrangea qualms, like leaf spot disease, drooping, and wilting. Bailey Nurseries crafted this variety to be about as perfect as could be: it produces a ton of beautiful blooms, features strong stems that won’t flop over on a windy day, and is disease-resistant thanks to its dark, clean leaves.
The most common challenges home gardeners experience with this hydrangea species are weak stems and disease-ridden leaves, so Bailey set out to craft a plant that would improve those characteristics.
“To introduce a new variety in that crowded marketplace, we knew that it had to be really special,” McEnaney tells The Spruce. “And what we ended up with in FlowerFull was that and more.”
FlowerFull checks all the boxes:
-
Strong stems
-
Disease resistant leaves
-
More heat tolerance
-
Double the flowers
-
Low-maintenance
It’s Durable in Harsh Conditions
If you are familiar with the beloved Annabelle hydrangea, you’ll notice some striking similarities in color and size. But, FlowerFull retains its shape in harsh conditions—which was an issue with Annabelle in the past.
As soon as home gardeners experience rain or wind, those blooms start drooping and falling into the dirt and the hydrangea loses its beauty. But, that’s where FlowerFull comes in, according to McEnaney.
“Even during wind and rain, FlowerFull stands tall, keeping its gorgeous, big, fluffy white flowers standing tall all season,” McEnaney says. “No more blooms dragging in the mud or having to underplant to keep the flowers where they’re supposed to be, standing upright in the garden!”
It Has Loads of Beautiful Blooms
Aside from sturdiness, there is another obvious example of why this new variety is so amazing: the number of blooms.
“In our years of pre-introduction trials, we’ve seen that FlowerFull consistently has two-to-three-times more blooms than other smooth hydrangeas,” McEnaney shares. “If you’re looking for a big impact on the landscape, FlowerFull will fill the garden with big blooms all summer and fall.”
When Can I Grow FlowerFull Hydrangeas?

First Editions® Shrubs & Trees
If you’re wondering when you can get your hands on this beautiful plant, look no further.
According to McEnaney, growers nationwide have already started substituting other smooth hydrangea for FlowerFull. Their customers can be sure they’re getting the best when FlowerFull is officially introduced.
You’ll likely spot FlowerFull at a nursery or hardware store near you next spring.
FlowerFull is such a marvel to behold. Something about the deep green foliage against the stunning white blossoms (which are even larger in person, might I add) makes for an extremely beautiful product.
