A baby girl’s strong preference for mom over dad has left Instagram users blaming one very prickly culprit.
In an Instagram reel, Chenoa, 26, is seen holding her daughter as the baby gazes upwards with a calm expression. But when the baby is handed to dad, Chris, 25, he pats her back and gives her a kiss, leading to a sudden shift in energy: the little one bursts into tears. Newsweek spoke to the couple about the hilarious and relatable video, and how life is going as new parents of four.
“Baby[‘s] reaction to dad holding her instead of mom,” Chris captioned the video. “Cozy never wants me to hold her.”
The video has racked up thousands of likes, with viewers joking that the reason for the baby’s shift in mood is right on Chris’ face—his prickly facial hair.
“Keep her away from your razor sharp beard…that’s the reason she is crying,” one person wrote, while another added, “You’ve got the spike friction burn beard.”
“Guy should kiss sandpaper and see how it feels for others,” a commenter boldly stated.
But according to Chris, the baby’s reaction was entirely expected.
“Our baby girl is just over two months old. That reaction is pretty typical for her. She’s been all about mom since the beginning,” Chris told Newsweek. “I already knew I was about to get curved…Chenoa thought it was hilarious and hasn’t let me live it down.”
The couple live in Nashville with their four children—and this isn’t the first time their youngest has made her feelings known.
“There have definitely been other moments like this. I’ll try to hold her and she’ll look at me so offended,” he added. “She’s so funny. As soon as Chenoa takes over, she’s instantly content.”
While some parents might be hurt by such a strong preference, Chris and Chenoa take it all in stride.
“We just try to keep things light and have fun with the stage we’re in,” Chris said. “These little moments make it all more memorable. We’re not overthinking anything, just showing up for each other and laughing through the chaos.”
While Chris may be catching some shade from his baby girl—and Instagram—he’s taking it all with grace and a good sense of humor.
“That’s all you can do,” Chris concluded. “Our life is so full of love and we are so blessed to have these children and our family.”
