Beau Lamarre-Condon was “disguised as an Uber Eats delivery driver”, a motorcycle helmet, high-vis vest and bag, and had his work-issued semi-automatic pistol with him, the Crown alleges.
Crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield, SC, says in his opening address to the jury that Lamarre-Condon had replaced at least some of his operational bullets with another make, and should not have had his weapon with him because he was not on duty that day, nor the next day.
Eventually, he entered the home, the Crown alleges, by opening the door with a key he had previously stolen or secretly copied.
He shot Baird twice in the kitchen and killed him, the Crown alleges, and the second shot was an “execution-style shot” that went through the floor.
Hatfield alleged Luke Davies was in Baird’s bedroom and attempted to call Triple Zero. Lamarre-Condon is accused of shooting Davies in the head through the door of the bedroom.
The Crown alleges that Lamarre-Condon then engaged in an elaborate series of acts to cover up the crimes, including seeking assistance from friends, and trying to “make it look like they had just disappeared”.
