Captain Sandy Yawn is making her acting debut to help solve a murder on Hudson & Rex — and her appearance is full of Below Deck Easter eggs.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive sneak peek at the Thursday, June 25, episode of UP Faith & Family’s Hudson & Rex, Sandy, 61, plays a fictional captain who shares a cute moment with Rex where she jokingly assigns him a job on deck. Sandy’s character, Captain Michelle, praises the dog to his partner — Detective Mark Hudson (Luke Roberts) — before being asked for her insight following a murder.
“Go ahead and clean the deck,” she playfully tells Rex before adding to Mark, “He must be wonderful to work with.”
Michelle admits she wasn’t expecting a death on board. “In my time, I have been through a lot,” she recalls. “But a murder on my boat? Never.”
After only knowing the victim “less than a week,” Michelle notes that he came off as “awful” after being “rude to his business partner and wife.” The former charter guest was also “obnoxious” to Michelle and her crew.
Michelle, however, didn’t witness the murder because she was busy on the bridge. She does point out though that a deckhand “disappeared” around the time of the incident.
According to the official episode description, Sandy plays Captain Michelle, whose last name is Sirocco, which is a callback to a boat Sandy steered in season 2 of Below Deck Med.
“A highly professional captain who is currently helming a somewhat smaller vessel while she waits for her next super yacht to be outfitted,” the synopsis continues. “Unfortunately, her current charter is the thoroughly unlikeable Jake Kaufman, a ruthless businessman, his wife, and a business partner. When Kaufman is murdered, a deckhand becomes the prime suspect. But Rex leads Mark to believe that the motives and method of the killing might be much more complicated.”
Sandy’s acting debut comes as the captain has been at the helm of the Below Deck spinoff ever since season 2 premiered in 2017. While speaking to Us recently, Sandy reflected on her iconic run on the show so far.
“It doesn’t feel like 10 years. But when I look in the mirror and I’m like, ‘It’s been 10 years,’” Sandy quipped. “I’d-> It’s? really cool because to get to be the captain on the same show for 10 years is incredible. I’m so grateful that I get asked back.”
Sandy also revealed how worried viewers should be about her future on the show.
“With Below Deck, I want to do that for the rest of my life — as long as they have me,” she gushed while expressing an interest in branching out, adding, “I’d like to do another show — like Traitors — or another Bravo crossover show would be cool. Or we could have a crossover on our vessel like Below Deck Down Under had.”
New episodes of Hudson & Rex air Thursdays on UP Faith & Family.
