Kanye West has said he has “dominion,” over his wife Bianca Censori, after their appearance at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday sparked concerns about Censori’s agency over her own behavior and welfare.
Newsweek has reached out to a representative for West via email for comment.
Why It Matters
West’s 30-year-old wife walked the red carpet at the Grammys on Sunday, wearing nothing but a sheer stocking over her naked body, sparking criticism and fears about the dynamics of their relationship. West, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, has faced a number of lawsuits from former employees, which include accusations of alleged sexual harassment and use of racist language.
What To Know
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, West wrote “I HAVE DOMINION OVER MY WIFE. THIS AIN’T NO WOKE AS FEMINIST S*** SHES WITH A BILLIONAIRE WHY WOULD SHE LISTEN TO ANY OF YOU DUMB ASS BROKE B****”
The post has been viewed over 1.9 million times at the time of reporting. To have “dominion,” over a person is defined as having power, authority and control over them.
The appearance made by West and Bianca Censori at the Grammys was considered to be shocking and disturbing to many, and sparked questions over both the welfare of Censori, and her agency in the stunt.
“This could be a complicated relationship dynamic that could be troubling, but it also could be a woman that’s choosing to do this herself and you cannot strip women of agency,” Zara McDonald, host of the pop culture podcast Shameless said on Thursday’s episode about the incident, and the couple.
This Grammys appearance is far from the first time that discourse has been raised about Censori and her relationship with West.
Censori repeatedly makes headlines for her barely-there outfits, and many outlets and social media users have been quick to point out that when she is seen publicly, she is frequently wearing very little and saying even less. This is in stark contrast to the public personas of West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian, and ex-girlfriend Julia Fox.
In the social media post, West claims to be a billionaire. The most recent evaluation of West’s net worth by Forbes stood at $400 million as of January 24, 2025.
In 2022, he made repeated antisemitic remarks which led to his being dropped by Adidas, Balenciaga, Vogue magazine and the talent agency CAA, and he lost his billionaire status overnight.
