The New York Jets are set to start veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12.

The move came after Justin Fields went 15-of-26 passing for 116 yards and one touchdown in the New England Patriots’ 27-14 win over the Jets in Week 11. Fields added 67 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries against the Patriots.
Following the game, New York head coach Aaron Glenn suggested everyone’s job was on the line before Week 12.
“You know what? I’m evaluating everything, to be honest with you,” Glenn said, via the Associated Press. “I’m evaluating myself, the players, schematics, coaches, I’m evaluating everything. So, I don’t want to just place everything on that, that one situation.
“I’m just looking at everything, because as a head coach, that’s my job, to make sure that I put this team in the best position to go win games.”

The Jets made the decision to bench Fields before playing the Ravens, but the choice doesn’t appear to have anything to do with putting the team in the best position to win games for the remainder of the season.
Per Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Jets are going with Taylor so the team can evaluate pass catchers on the roster before the offseason. New York knows playing Taylor might lead to more turnovers.
The Jets didn’t believe they could evaluate those players correctly because of Fields’ tendencies to rely on checkdowns and hold on to the ball too long.
“The Jets’ reason for moving from Justin Fields to Tyrod Taylor has a lot to do with their desire to evaluate the young non-quarterbacks on their roster, especially tight end Mason Taylor and recently acquired wide receivers John Metchie III and Adonai Mitchell,” Graziano wrote.
“They haven’t been able to develop any kind of real passing game around Fields, whose running ability wasn’t keeping them competitive in games. They know Tyrod Taylor brings increased turnover risk because he’ll take chances Fields won’t, but they need to figure out what they have in the rest of their receiving corps before making an offseason plan.”
Fields has thrown for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception through his first nine games played this season. He’s added 383 yards and four touchdowns on 71 carries.
Taylor will not match the explosive capabilities Fields has as a rusher, but the 2-8 Jets are already looking to 2026 before Thanksgiving.
