Soon, the New York Giants are expected to add a running back from the free agency market.
According to NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton, the team hosted multiple running backs on Monday morning. Giants head coach Brian Daboll addressed the situation with the media before practice and confirmed that there is a plan to bring in another player.
The decision is expected to be finalized after physicals are complete, according to Stapleton. So far, only one name has been linked to the Giants’ search for a new rusher: Jonathan Ward.

Back in 2020, Ward went undrafted out of Central Michigan. He started his career with the Arizona Cardinals. He was on and off the practice squad at first, but received some regular-season opportunities over time.
For three seasons with the Cardinals, Ward appeared in 32 games. During that time, he picked up just nine carries for 33 yards.
During the 2022 season, Ward joined the New York Jets’ practice squad. Eventually, he joined the Tennessee Titans for two years and spent the previous NFL season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In two years with the Titans, Ward appeared in 10 games. He collected eight carries for 36 yards. During his lone season with the Steelers, Ward appeared in four games. He produced 22 yards on four carries.
What’s The Latest on Cam Skattebo?
The Giants are putting together a search for running back depth this week, mainly due to the fact that two running backs are dealing with setbacks. One of them happens to be the rookie, Cam Skattebo.
Last week, Skattebo was on a limited participation plan. Although he was expected to be a full participant for Friday’s practice, Skattebo exited the field early. At the time, it was unclear what the young rookie running back was dealing with. Eventually, it was revealed that a hamstring injury is bothering Skattebo.
The good news is that Skattebo is reportedly improving. According to Stapleton, tests on his lef “came back clean.” The team plans to see how quickly he can ramp back up without risking further concerns. Since hamstring injuries tend to linger, the Giants have to be extremely cautious, taking their time with the rookie, who could end up playing a key role this year.
Along with Skattebo, the other rookie, Rushawn Baker, is reportedly out of practice to begin the week as he’s dealing with a knee-related setback.
