And some people claim chivalry is dead.
While taking in the Los Angeles Lakers game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, October 24, at Crypto.com Arena, NFL star Justin Herbert had a moment in the spotlight with his girlfriend, pop star Madison Beer.
When a loose basketball bounced towards the sideline where the pair were sitting, heading directly towards Beer, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback quickly jumped into action and batted away the stray ball, saving his girlfriend from what would have at the very least been an embarrassing courtside moment.
The funny moment quickly went viral on social media, as the two could be seen cozying up during the game. Friday’s outing is the first public event for the two since dating rumors began to swirl in August.
Neither Herbert, 27, nor Beer, 26, have publicly commented on their relationship status, but they shared a kiss on the sidelines at SoFi Stadium on October 5 before Herbert’s game against the Washington Commanders.
The pair was first linked in August, during a series of outings, including one where Herbert visited Beer on the set of her music video for her latest song “Bittersweet.” (Us Weekly reached out for comment at the time.)
Beer’s music video dropped on Monday, October 20, the first from her third studio album, “Locket,” scheduled to be released on January 16.
“Locket, my new album, will be yours 1.16,” Beer wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, October 22. “I really can’t believe I’m sayin’ this. This album means the world to me, I’ve never been so proud or excited about something [and] I am soooooo beyond excited for u to listen. This project is my world and metaphorically / literally my heart.”
According to Beer, the songs on “Locket” describe “a real roller-coaster.”
“I think the album has such duality. There are songs that are upbeat but still emotional,” Beer told Vogue in a profile published earlier this week. “I got a lot of inspiration from songs off my last album that really didn’t perform all that well in regards of streams. They weren’t my biggest songs, but I’d have crowds of thousands of people singing every word at me every night while I was on tour, which put things into perspective a bit. We all hope that things take off and become hits, but it gave me more confidence that they will be listening regardless.”
Herbert was fresh off a dominant 37-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, October 23. The star quarterback threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, the day before sitting courtside at the Lakers game with Beer. He also rushed for 62 yards.
“It was a big win for us, a big opportunity for us to correct some more mistakes,” said Herbert after the game.
He has led the Chargers to a 5-3 start to the season and next face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday November 2.
Herbert has been known to keep his personal life quiet, saying in a 2021 ESPN interview, “I think the less people know about me, the better. I don’t want to read an article about myself.”
