Marko Elez, a Department of Government Efficiency employee linked to Elon Musk, has resigned, a White House official confirmed Thursday.
What to Know:
- Elez stepped down following a Wall Street Journal report linking him to a now-deleted social media account allegedly promoting racist and eugenicist views.
- “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity,” read a September post. “Normalize Indian hate,” another read.
- “Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool,” was posted in July. And in December: “I just want a eugenic immigration policy, is that too much to ask.”
- Elez was a “special government employee” at the Treasury Department and had “read-only” access to sensitive taxpayer data.
- Before joining the government last month, Elez worked at SpaceX and X, two of Musk’s private companies.
