A flight from Los Angeles was diverted to the Gold Coast and another from Manila was sent to Sydney, with multiple flights circling the airport awaiting instructions.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning about the dangerous driving conditions.
A truck rolled near Riverview in Ipswich, with traffic headed to the city building up.
Temperatures were expected to get up to 25 degrees in the city after the fog has lifted.
