Kansas Jayhawks head men’s basketball coach Bill Self announced he would return next season and remained “focused and committed” to Kansas basketball.
A couple of his players did not share his commitment to the Jayhawks.
Last Sunday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that former Kansas forward Flory Bidunga committed to Louisville after entering the transfer portal.
On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that former Kansas forward Bryson Tiller planned to transfer to Missouri.
Tiller confirmed the move by posting an Instagram photo showing him in a Missouri Tigers uniform. “MIZ,” he captioned the post.
Fans took the Tiller news particularly hard, as he not only left Kansas but also chose to play for the Jayhawks’ longtime bitter rival. Tiller’s Instagram comments are a cesspool, but a Jayhawks subreddit also labeled the news “Disgusting.”
Reddit users commiserated in the comments, with one person writing, “This is probably the biggest betrayal by an individual player of any team I’ve ever rooted for.” The majority of the comments on Instagram and Reddit are too vile to relay, which is a poorer reflection on society at large than Tiller.
Tiller appeared in 35 games as a freshman last season and averaged 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.0 assists.
The biggest Jayhawks domino hasn’t fallen. Star freshman guard Darryn Peterson is projected as a top-3 pick in this summer’s 2026 NBA Draft, but Peterson has not yet declared for the draft. It would be shocking if Peterson stalled the NBA for another year, but as of this writing, his return to Kansas is still on the board.
