A grand jury declined to indict a Kentucky doctor who allegedly forgot her 10-month-old granddaughter in a sweltering car for hours, causing her to die.
Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker will not face a criminal trial for the tragic death of little Scottie Gwyn Crowell in Madisonville, Kentucky on Aug. 13, Hopkins County Attorney Hannah Kington-Jarvis announced.
“The Madisonville Police Department conducted a thorough and objective investigation. The Commonwealth waited to present this case to the Grand Jury until all relevant evidence was available for the Grand Jury to consider,” Kington-Jarvis said in a release.
“I would ask that you keep the infant’s parents and family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to grieve and process this imaginable loss,” the prosecutor said.
Fazenback, 61, allegedly picked up Crowell to bring her to daycare on her way to work at Owensboro Health Multicare but forgot the baby in the back of her car as temperatures rose to 95 degrees.
After the baby’s father didn’t find the child at daycare later that day, her mother, Fazenbaker’s daughter, called Fazenbaker to ask what happened.
The grandma ran out to her car eight hours later, around 4 p.m., to find the little girl there and unresponsive. She was unable to be revived by first responders.
Kington-Jarvis said Crowell’s parents, Sydni and Micah Crowell, were both consulted during the probe.
