A man who fell off a cargo ship has survived 24 hours at sea after reportedly swimming more than 8 kilometres to a beach south of Newcastle.
The man fell overboard at 11.30pm on Thursday night off the Newcastle coast and was spotted nearly 24 hours later on Blacksmiths Beach near Swansea on Friday night.
Nine News reported that he was a crew member of the cargo ship and swam more than 8 kilometres to safety.
NSW Police and Marine Rescue NSW had two boats searching for the man, who was taken to hospital for treatment.
