Nancy Mace has launched her campaign for South Carolina governor, joining several prominent Republicans who will bid to replace Henry McMaster.

On Monday morning, Mace, 47, posted a video to her website titled “Nancy Mace for Governor,” showing news clips featuring some of her recent speeches.

The Republican primary field for South Carolina governor already includes Representative Ralph Norman, State Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette and State Senator Josh Kimbrell.

What To Know

Mace has represented South Carolina’s 1st congressional district since 2021, and previously served in the South Carolina General Assembly from 2018 to 2020.

In July, she teased her potential run in an interview with Fox News, in which she complained that South Carolina had gone “woke.”

“I will be making a decision over the next couple of days about my future,” she said. “I believe I may be forced to run for governor because I can’t watch my beautiful red state of South Carolina go woke. It’s gone woke over the last couple of years.”

According to July polling by the South Carolina Policy Council, 16 percent of Republican voters would support Mace, whereas 15 percent would support Wilson. Meanwhile, Evette earned eight percent of support; Norman received six percent; and Kimbrell received three percent. About 52 percent were undecided.

Newsweek contacted Mace’s campaign via her website for comment outside of regular working hours.
