A one-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car at a property near Ballarat, with police on scene investigating the circumstances.
Emergency services were called to a home on Vermont Road in Smythesdale, about 22 kilometres southwest of Ballarat, around 1.20pm on Monday after reports that the girl had been hit.
Ambulance Victoria paramedics assessed the girl before she was driven to a local reserve and then flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition. She later died in hospital, police confirmed.
Police said the incident occurred on private property, but officers would continue to investigate how the incident happened, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Police tape lined the driveway on Monday afternoon, with multiple police cars seen parked outside.
