An owner who spent 90 minutes searching for their cat has left the internet in hysterics after revealing where she was hiding all along.

TikTok user @yukiandtheboys took to social media to discuss the hilarious ordeal they went through when it seemed as though Eleanor the cat had gone missing. The owner spent 90 minutes searching for the feline, “tearing apart the house” in the process.

After scouring every room and potential hiding place, the owner was left “sobbing” and thought Eleanor had managed to get out somehow. However, there was evidently one place they hadn’t thought to look: inside an Amazon box (which was, remarkably, still sealed).

It turned out that the mischievous feline was hiding inside the cardboard box all along and only snuck out after giving her owner the fright of their life. The TikTok clip shows the moment she crept out from the packaging, looking incredibly nonchalant and as though nothing had even happened.

Social media users can’t get enough of the amusing video, which has quickly gone viral in the days since it was shared. At the time of writing, the TikTok post has already generated over 347,300 views and more than 85,500 likes.

Newsweek has contacted @yukiandtheboys via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.

The caption alongside the clip reads: “I love that she definitely heard me calling her name and just completely ignored it.”

It’s no secret that cats like to hide in boxes, as the website PetMD explains that it’s a cozy hideaway that offers endless fun. Hiding within the confines of a box triggers a cat’s natural instinct to find safety, allowing them to feel snug and secure in a closed environment. It’s also beneficial that boxes provide warmth and trap the cat’s body heat within too.

To us, it may just be a cardboard box that needs throwing out, but for a cat, it’s a personal kingdom that offers endless playtime and exploration. PetMD refers to them as “kitty playgrounds” which may also relieve stress by providing comfort and security.

In the days since Eleanor’s hiding place was revealed, internet users can’t get enough of her antics. With over 200 comments on the TikTok video so far, many people were quick to share their comical reactions, while some offered suggestions of how to find her next time. Unfortunately, @yukiandtheboys explained in a TikTok comment that they’re powerless because “this piece of work is not food motivated.”

Among the other comments, one person wrote: “Eleanor said why were you being so loud, I was trying to nap.”

Another TikTok user said: “They always wait until we’re crashing out before they finally make their appearance.”

While one comment reads: “Still sealed Amazon box is a new one for me.”
