The Kansas City Chiefs are undergoing significant changes this offseason. While big decisions — such as the future of veteran tight end Travis Kelce — are still pending, head coach Andy Reid has already begun reshaping his coaching staff.
On Friday, the Chiefs made offensive coordinator Matt Nagy’s departure official, as his contract expires this offseason and he is reportedly exploring head coaching opportunities.
The move had already been anticipated earlier this week when the team hired Eric Bieniemy as Nagy’s replacement. Bieniemy previously served as the Chiefs’ OC for several seasons before leaving following the 2022 campaign.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes reacted to the news shortly after it became public, sharing a message on his Instagram story: “Thank you for everything! Made me a better player and man!”

Nagy has long been a member of Reid’s staff, coaching in Kansas City from 2013 to 2017 before earning a head coaching stint with the Chicago Bears in 2018..
He returned for a second stint in 2022 as the quarterbacks coach, and when Bieniemy departed at the end of that season, Nagy was promoted.
Mahomes was drafted in 2017 out of Texas Tech and, while he didn’t start his rookie season—sitting behind veteran Alex Smith — Nagy played a significant role in his early development. That contribution has not gone unnoticed by the three-time Super Bowl champion.
Reid has also made several other coaching changes as he rebuilds his offensive staff. The roster is expected to see adjustments as well, as the team looks to clear cap space, await Travis Kelce’s decision, and assemble a squad that best supports Mahomes when he returns from the season-ending torn ACL he suffered in Week 15.
