The New Orleans Pelicans cut ties with two players on Monday to trim their roster down to 19 (with three two-way players).

Garrison Brooks, a 26-year-old center, was waived as he still looks for his first experience in the NBA. Six-year veteran Jalen McDaniels was also waived by New Orleans.

Brooks last played in the G League during the 2022-23 season as a member of the Westchester Knicks (affiliate of the New York Knicks). He put up 13.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per game across 22 appearances.

McDaniels was drafted late in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He would spend his first few seasons there before being dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers in a four-team deal. McDaniels was in the midst of setting career-highs in points (10.6), rebounds (4.8), assists (2), and steals (1.2).

McDaniels saw a drop in usage upon heading to Philadelphia, and would spend just those 24 games in the City of Brotherly Love to close out the 2022-23 campaign.

The 50 games McDaniels would play for the Toronto Raptors, however, would unfortunately feature even less production. He averaged just 3.4 points per game during 10.8 minutes per game, the least amount of time he has played in any season to that point.

McDaniels was then dealt to the Sacramento Kings the summer before the 2024-25 season would begin, as part of a deal that brought Davion Mitchell and other pieces to Canada. The 27-year-old McDaniels wouldn’t suit up for the Raptors, instead finding himself with the Washington Wizards, but only making four brief appearances last season.

In the G League, however, McDaniels would make 26 starts for the Capital City Go-Go, averaging 13 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1 steal per game. He will now search for his next destination to hopefully continue his professional basketball career.

Since both McDaniels and Brooks were Exhibit 10 signings, both players could sign with New Orleans’ NBAGL affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron, to stay close the NBA.
