A chilling pair of gruesome discoveries has sparked multiple investigations in Monterey County after authorities found the remains of a dead infant and another person’s remains just hours apart on opposite ends of the California county.
The first body was found around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, when deputies and firefighters responded to the 100 block of Struve Road in Moss Landing after receiving reports that a baby had been found, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said.
Fire crews arrived to find the infant dead, launching an investigation into the heartbreaking case.
A short time later, the department responded to a call at 9:55 a.m. in the 400 block of Stage Road in Salinas — about 25 miles down the road — after an employee working for the county discovered what they believed to be the remains of a human.
Commander Andy Rosas with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department told The California Post that at this time authorities do not believe the two cases are related.
“We do not have any further details on the condition of the remains of either of the two cases,” Rosas said.
“As you can imagine, it is rare to have two of these types of cases going on simultaneously and our detectives are working hard to try to gather as much information as possible.”
“Respectfully, we will not be releasing any further information at this time,” Rosas added, noting there would hopefully be some kind of update the cases by Monday.
Both incidents are being actively investigated, as no other information has been provided including the identities of either of the people or how old they were.
Authorities are asking anyone who might have information related to either of the incidents to contact the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
The disturbing news comes following shocking discoveries in Fresno on Friday where two bodies were found, including one on the roof of a building on the campus of a local high school.
The Fresno Police Department said around 11 a.m. an employee at Fresno High School said they found what they believed to be the body of a deceased person on the roof of a building located on the north end of the campus, near Echo and Weldon.
Crews responded and found the body of an adult male, who was pronounced deceased on scene. It is unclear how long the body was there.
The discovery came just hours after authorities responded to reports of a body found in a water canal just outside the city. The body was later determined to be that of an adult male.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department said on Saturday their deaths were no longer considered suspicious.
