Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the armed robbery of “Pretty Little Liars” star Keegan Allen “egregious” after the bloodied actor publicly challenged her and Gov. Gavin Newsom to use California’s network of surveillance cameras to catch his attackers.
Allen, 37, took aim at the two Democratic leaders late Thursday after he was robbed at gunpoint and knifepoint outside a luxury grocery store in West Hollywood, questioning whether the controversial Flock camera network could help track down the suspects.
“Let’s hope all these flock cameras that @karenbassla @gavinnewsom and everyone thinks will stop crime can find these very dangerous criminals. God bless,” he wrote in an Instagram post late Thursday.
The actor, who shared security footage of the attack, said the encounter left him bloodied and without his watch — and lamented that West Hollywood was “not safe anymore.”
“My life for a watch,” he said.
While the LA Mayor’s Office and the LAPD do not represent or have jurisdiction in WeHo, both play vital roles in ensuring safety in Los Angeles and the surrounding region.
“This is egregious — no one should have to experience something like this,” Bass’ office told The California Post. “West Hollywood is an independent city, and the LA County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for leading this investigation. LAPD, as always, will assist regional partners as needed to ensure bad actors are held accountable.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told The Post that deputies responded to Laurel Supply around 9:05 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a robbery.
Deputies encountered Allen, who told them two suspects dressed in black had targeted him. One allegedly pointed a “silver handgun” at him while the other brandished a knife and demanded his watch and bracelet.
“Shortly after, the victim was struck in the face with the handgun. The suspects obtained the victim’s watch and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle,” the department told The Post.
Allen suffered a “laceration to his forehead” during the attack but was not transported to the hospital after Los Angeles County Fire checked him out. He said he went to the hospital himself and was “def concussed.”
It remains unclear whether investigators will use Flock cameras to help identify the suspects. The Sheriff’s Department would not tell The California Post whether the technology would be used in the investigation.
Flock cameras are set up around the city and in West Hollywood.
The cameras, which scan license plates, have become a flashpoint in California amid concerns about privacy and the sharing of data with federal immigration authorities.
Atlanta-based Flock has faced accusations of sharing data with ICE to help track down illegal immigrants. The LAPD suspended its deal with the company in July amid ongoing contract negotiations.
Bass herself has criticized Flock, saying in August that the company had “lost the trust of Angelenos and residents across the country, especially in immigrant communities targeted by the federal administration.”
“There are many companies that provide this technology to cities nationwide,” Bass said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. “The LAPD needs to identify another company that doesn’t share data.”
Newsom vetoed a bill last year that would have restricted how police can use the data and placed more requirements on its handling.
Allen is best known for playing Toby Cavanaugh on “Pretty Little Liars” from 2010 to 2017. He later starred as Liam Walker on the drama “Walker” from 2021 to 2024. He most recently appeared in an episode of “The Rookie” this year.
