Prince Louis looks all grown up in a new photo released by Prince William and Princess Kate to mark his eighth birthday on Thursday.

The young prince smiles warmly wearing a blue quarter zip fleece in the image shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales on their official social media channels on Thursday morning with the message: “Happy birthday, Louis! 8 today!”

Louis was last seen publicly celebrating Easter at church in Windsor alongside his sibling, Prince George and Princess Charlotte and their parents, William and Kate.

Why It Matters

Royal children are rarely seen as the family fiercely defend their right to live their childhood in peace like any normal family, but the Waleses do share portraits to mark their birthdays, allowing the British public and a global audience to form a bond with what will be the next generation of the monarchy.

Prince Louis’ Eighth Birthday as Cheeky Royal Celebrates

Born at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London on April 23, 2018, Prince Louis Arthur Charles has become one of the most recognizable and popular members of the royal family, often delighting the public with his animated appearances at major royal events.

A photo of the youngster screaming with his hands over his ears went viral during the Trooping the Colour parade marking Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday during her Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 became the most viral moment of the celebrations and lived on in memes for years.

Other clips of the prince have shown him dancing on the Buckingham Palace balcony or running to join his sister Charlotte during the walk to church on Christmas morning.

How Prince William Will Spend Louis’ Birthday

It will not all be parties for Prince William who has a royal engagement in the diary, visiting the headquarters of British Formula E team Jaguar TCS Racing on Thursday.

Formula E, the world’s first all‑electric, international, single‑seater championship, has become a fast‑growing motor sport series globally and is certified as having a net‑zero carbon footprint since its inception.

The aim is to shine a spotlight on the company’s role, having competed for more than a decade, and its contribution to the development of next‑generation electric vehicle technology.

Hopefully he has time for presents before he sets off, and Louis will no doubt be in school during the visit anyway.
