Princess Kate fending off a question about whether she had a poster of Prince William on her wall at university resurfaced on TikTok where it went newly viral.
The Princess of Wales was asked about the rumor during her engagement interview in November 2010 while sitting next to her future husband ahead of their wedding the following April.
And Prince William would have been forgiven for blushing when Kate pointedly replied that the poster had in fact shown the TV hunk from a famous Levi advert.
Why It Matters
A clip of the moment went newly viral on TikTok after it was liked 444,000 times and viewed 2,500,000 times.
What to Know
When ITV journalist Tom Bradby sat down with Prince William and Kate Middleton for their engagement interview on November 16, 2010, he raised an awkward tabloid rumor—that teenage Kate had a poster of the young prince pinned to her bedroom wall.
“There’s a story that goes around that you had a picture of him on your wall,” Bradby said. William replied: “There wasn’t just one, there was about 20.”
“He wishes.” Kate replied. “No, no, I had the Levi’s guy on my wall, not a picture of William. Sorry.”
William joked back: “Well, it was me in Levi’s, obviously.”
The moment captured Kate’s dry humor and William’s instinct to play along even at a time of high pressure around their engagement announcement.
The interview was designed to introduce Kate to a global audience and to show the pair’s dynamic away from palace formality, which Bradby’s question, however awkward it might have felt in the moment, managed to achieve.
As royal biographer Robert Jobson observed in his book Catherine: A Biography: “There were reports that Catherine had a schoolgirl crush on Prince William when he was at Eton College, and her former housemate Jessica Hay even claimed she had a picture of him on her wall at school.
“During the ITV interview with Tom Bradby to mark their engagement, however, Catherine firmly quashed this rumor.”
What People Are Saying
One reply read “can’t wait for them to get to the throne” while another said Kate was “such an icon.” A third said: “He was that guy tho.”
