Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home was raided early Monday morning by the Department of Homeland Security as part of an ongoing criminal fraud investigation into the Somali-born congresswoman’s immigration paperwork.
“Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” the spokesperson added.
Multiple agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) jackets were seen outside Omar’s Washington, DC home early on Monday, Fox News reported.
Two sources close to the investigation told the outlet that the raid is part of an investigation into the left-wing Democrat’s immigration documents, which were filled out by her late father when she was a child.
It comes just weeks after Border Czar Tom Homan revealed that Omar was under an ongoing “criminal” investigation.
Omar has long been dogged by allegations that she married her brother in order to help him secure a US visa or student loans.
Omar and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen, were married in 2009. They divorced in 2017.
The progressive Democrat has also been accused of entering the US in 1995 under a false name or secondary family identity to bypass refugee processing backlogs.
Meanwhile, the controversial lawmaker has faced questions about alleged tax discrepancies, after a 2019 Minnesota state campaign finance board found that she filed joint tax returns with Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her children, in 2014 and 2015 — while she was still legally married to her first husband.
Omar has consistently denied that Elmi is her brother, branding the claims as baseless bigotry.
She said she entered into a religious marriage with Hirsi in 2002, but they later separated and she legally married Elmi in 2009.
The congresswoman said she and Elmi separated two years later, in 2011, before she reconciled with Hirsi.
She and Elmi were legally divorced in 2017.
In May, JD Vance announced that the DOJ, alongside federal immigration authorities, was reviewing potential instances of immigration fraud and family financial disclosures.
This followed an April amendment to Omar’s federal financial disclosures that adjusted reported asset values.
The HSI is the main investigative arm of Homeland Security, with a scope that includes investigating cross-border crime and global threats, including human trafficking, child sexual exploitation, drug smuggling, and cybercrime.
No formal criminal charges or court filings have been brought against Omar to date, while her legal counsel and spokespeople maintain that her naturalization process and financial disclosures fully comply with federal law.
The Department of Homeland Security was approached for more information about the raid.
