Sam Noakes stops Gianluca Ceglia in European lightweight title defence at London’s York Hall.

“It was a tougher fight than I thought it would be,” Noakes said on TNT Sports.

“Fights like this are really going to bring me on. It was a good learning fight.

“If the phone call comes and there’s a world title fight next week I’ll take it.

“I’ve still got a lot to learn. We’ll keep stepping up.”

“A little more urgency at times would have benefitted him,” Carl Frampton said.

“It’s like sometimes everything has to be perfect, rather than just put through shots together.”

Steve Bunce added: “I didn’t like Ceglia’s body language in his sixth round…I think he could’ve got rid of him if he put a flurry. The ref might have jumped in.

Ceglia pulled out of the contest at the end of the eighth round. Ceglia has a big swelling above his right eye and was adversely affected by it.

A similar story with Ceglia looking like he is running out of stamina and spending time against the ropes. You would hope Noakes finds a different gear to force a stoppage.

Less is coming back from Ceglia and the expression on his face suggests he is increasingly growing disenchanted with the job at hand.

In the final few seconds for the first time Ceglia seems to suggest the fight might be going out of him as Noakes piled in with body shots against the ropes.

A quieter round. Noakes still wins it, but this no longer looks a fight which looks certain to end early.

Ceglia’s tight guard makes it hard for Noakes to pay full dividends when he forces the Italian into the ropes. The body shots are still landing but the Italian is far from cannon fodder.

Ceglia settling in to the contest a bit with a few good jabs and blocking or evading Noakes’ higher artillery, but a left hook does make him sink back into the ropes and he eats a couple more in the bread basket.

Weirdly Ceglia has a poor fitted mouthpiece which Richie Woodhall says could lead to a broken jaw – especially with Noakes’ crunching shots. The Italian was forced on the back foot throughout. Now Noakes’ corner will be hoping he can relax and let his shots go.

Ceglia looks to come forward which appears to be play into the hands of the bigger man, who lands a few of those brutal blows to the body he is already renowned for. Towards the end of the round the Italian is moving backwards. This has the look of an early stoppage.

And he has called on Nathaniel Collins to vacate the title so they can meet.

“I want Isaac Lowe in Saudi Arabia on December 21,” Abdulah said on TNT Sports.

“And I want it for the British title.

“Nathaniel Collins let go of the belt. He’s not defending it, he’s injured.”

Masood Abdulah takes an unanimous decision 118-110 on all three cards.

Abdullah hurts Stewart but the referee stops the action as he saw a low blow in the build up to his big right hand. Stewart took a number of shots in the closing stages and his corner threw the towel in seconds before the final bell. It was uncertain whether the fight was over or not, but it has now been confirmed it will go to the scorecards.

Stewart’s determination hasn’t faulted. Abdullah lands good upppercuts and body shots, but each time Stewart comes back with shots of his own and dodges when his opponent looks to tee off. A great effort from the Scot, he maybe ended taking the round.

Abdullah’s rights to the body are brutal. Even when Stewart lands flush, Abdullah is walking through them. Stewart showing great hard to stay in the contest.

Abdullah begins with a couple of lovely uppercuts. He had never been in the ninth round before so maybe took a breather in the two previous rounds. His punches have more bite in this stanza, there is some blood oozing from Stewart’s nose and a couple of body shots almost see the Scot wilt.

Abdullah in control of the fight, no sign of taking Stewart out but he is building a big lead.

More of the same with Abdullah in charge but his corner want him to keep his focus.

Stewart is still game and timing his opponent with some shots as he comes in, but Abdullah is landing more and his are having a greater effect.

Abdullah is unrelenting in moving forward and does not seem perturbed when he is caught by Stewart. He particularly lands good left hooks to head and body. Abdullah also has a nick over his left eye. Quite possibly from the same head clash.

An overhand right catches Stewart flush rocking him with a minute left in the round. Blood is now smeared around Stewart’s eye.

Abdullah’s round, but slightly encouraging for Stewart in the final thirty seconds as his opponent’s feet slowed. A cut has developed over Stewart’s right eye after an accidental clash of heads.

Abdullah landing the more shots showcasing quicker hands, with Stewart susceptible to left hooks with his low-lying right hand.

It looks set to be a competitive contest. Stewart with the slightly cleaner jab but Abdullah a bit quicker in and out of range.

A 60-54 win, he will need to do a bit more to justify the ‘Irish Takeover’ nickname though.

Cairns lands some jabs as he has throughout the fight but could not land big shots.

Same tune, different round. Cairns getting visibly frustrated now. Gregores happy with his work.

After a promising start, the fight is getting a bit frustrating for Cairns. He is winning easily but not looking like stopping Gregores.

Another round with some good shots in the inside but he’ll be looking to step up and force a stoppage now.

You get the feeling Cairns will be able to end the fight when he chooses. He seems happy to get the workout at present.

Immediately Cairns knocks Gregores off balance with a stern jab and remains dominant through the three minutes. Gregores has already lost his appetite for the contest.

A 6-round super-lightweight contest.

The easiest fight of the night to score, 40-36.

Fetti lands a couple of good rights to the body early in the round and once more was chasing his opponent round the ring throughout.

A little bit more flashy than effective Fetti, not landing flush a great deal, although he wins the round easily. As Richie Woodhall mentioned his opponent was doing tours of the four corners of the ring.

A little frustrating early in the round as Ocampo looked fairly comfortable but a left hook to the body combined with the same shot upstairs landed well on the bell.

Fetti showcasing his fast hands in round one, forcing Ocampo back and with the latter’s high chin he may well be caught.

Former two-time ABA champion Christian Fetti has his second professional fight.

Hickford wins 39-37, a good workout for him.

An exciting round with both throwing until the end. Hickford wins the fight but he was forced to fight every one of the 720 seconds.

A much better start to the round from Hickford, as he dominates from the off and piles in shots as Martinez is forced back against the ropes.

Martinez catches Huckford with the best punch of the round early on, Hickford comes on stronger as the round goes on.

A good start from Hickford, picking his shots and keeping Darwing Martinez on the back foot in this featherweight contest. Martinez is caught flush near the end of the round but recovers with a good shot himself.

It is impossible not to be impressed with him.

McCormack went to the canvas, Brodsky celebrated and a count began at ringside. McCormack then caught him with a brilliant left hook which turned Brdosky’s head and a left hook downstairs which put him down. Another vicious left and right hook to the body puts Bordosky down again and one more left to the body saw the Pole wilt and the referee jump in.

Immediately a left hook to the body has Brodsky wilting. From that point on McCormack plants his feet landing strong jabs and overhand rights. All piunches land with bad intentions. Brodsky did well to see out the round.

Frankham wins comfortably on the card, winning 59-55, with Emilov evidently taking the last round.

The sight of blood flowing from Frankham’s left eye puts a burst of enthusiasm into Emilov’s work, with Frankham looking to tie up when in close to get the fight over. Frankham’s habit of turning his back to his opponent doesn’t seem a good habit though.

The uppercuts from Frankham have sapped Emilov’s enthusiasm to come forward. Frankham remains patient picking his shots to win the round, though Emilov caught him with a couple of hooks on the bell.

Emilov looking to close the distance, which allows Frankham to land with his uppercut. At times he does get caught against the ropes, but he landed a nice right to body, right uppercut in the best moment of the round.

More of the same from Frankham. You can almost stick the 60-54 scorecard in the books now.

Frankham wins the round comfortably landing his jab and straight right, but the Bulgarian almost throws his opponent through the ropes before the bell, illustrating his fiery approach.

A dominant first round from Frankham. Emilov has only been stopped twice in 76 contests though, so it will be a coup if he ends the six-round middleweight contest early.

Joshua Frankham (10-0, 2 KOs) takes on Bulgarian journeyman Angel Emilov.

Some moniker that is, but Sam Noakes may well be the best British body puncher since Ricky Hatton and tonight fights Gianluca Ceglia in a defence of his European lightweight title at the York Hall.
