A man has been shot in the leg at an upscale Sunset Strip rooftop bar as deputies hunted for a suspect and motive.
The shooting at celebrity hotspot Harriet’s Rooftop erupted around 8:55 p.m. Sunday in the 8400 block of West Sunset Boulevard.
Witnesses said the gunfire appeared to break out on the trendy ninth-floor lounge atop the 1 Hotel West Hollywood.
A man was struck in the lower leg and rushed to a nearby hospital by Los Angeles County firefighters. His condition was not immediately known.
“Deputies are working to figure out whether there’s an outstanding suspect,” Lt. Barker of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station told WEHOonline.
One witness inside the bar said the first shot initially sounded like a champagne cork popping. A second round quickly clarified the danger.
“It was scary, but it was like, what is that? Sounded like a champagne bottle,” the witness said. “It definitely sounded like a gunshot. … A crowd of people started running and pushing each other, and they didn’t even know where to go.”
Circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. Sheriff’s officials said they had not yet determined a motive.
