Brisbane breakfast radio is having another shake up, with Sofie Formica and Dean Miller departing 4BC.

The change was announced on-air on Thursday by Afternoons host Carla Bignasca.

“We are making some temporary changes to the on-air announcer line-up for the rest of the year, keeping familiar voices on air and continuing to deliver for you, our listeners,” Bignasca said, reading a statement from station manager Siobhain Ryan.

Formica and Miller will host their final show on Friday, and Jason Matthew will take over hosting duties from Monday. Gary Hardgrave will host the Mornings program and Bignasca will take over 4BC Drive.

“We’re delighted to welcome back a familiar voice to the station in Michael McLaren, who has previously hosted overnights and weekends on 4BC, he will be taking over Afternoons on the station. On weekends, we’re happy to also welcome back The Garden Clinic,” Ryan’s statement said.

“This does mean we are saying goodbye to some of our on-air announcers, including Dean and Sofie. As a station, we want to thank them for their tireless dedication to 4BC and to the listeners.

“We love this city, and our commitment to you, our listeners, hasn’t changed. 4BC is proudly Brisbane, and we will continue to bring you the local news, sport, opinions, and great conversation that you rely on every single day.”

The changes follow a dip in ratings, revealed in Tuesday’s radio survey announcement.

The show’s audience share was down to 3.2 per cent from 3.7 per cent. The station’s overall share was down to 3.3 per cent, from its previous 4.1 per cent.

Formica and Miller were announced as Breakfast hosts only eight months ago, replacing Peter Fegan.

Formica had helmed the Mornings program for about three months before joining Breakfast.

Miller was previously a breakfast host at Triple M, and has appeared on lifestyle TV shows such as Creek to Coast, Queensland Weekender, and The Great South East.

Fegan anchored the 5.30-9am show for a year, taking over after Laurel Edwards, Gary Clare and Mark Hine left in late 2024.

Formica was the station’s longest-serving host after NRL commentator Peter Psaltis, who had been with the station for more than two decades before departing last year.

The duo’s axing echoes their predecessor’s, but he did not get to say his goodbyes before being pulled from hosting duties. His departure also followed a ratings dip.

Fegan signed off on a Friday morning, telling listeners to look after themselves, and that he would be back on Monday at 5.30am as usual.

About an hour later, staff received an email announcing that Fegan had finished up with 4BC, and interim hosts would cover the show for the remainder of the year.

4BC was recently sold by Nine Entertainment, the publisher of this masthead, to the publican Laundy family, alongside stablemates 3AW, 2GB and 6PR, now operating under the new name Tapt Media.
