An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.6 struck north-west of Brisbane on Saturday morning, with tremors felt across Queensland’s south-east corner.

The epicentre – at a depth of 2 kilometres – was reported near Goomeri in the Gympie region, about 150 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, according to Geoscience Australia.

Earth shaking and house “flexing” were reported as far north as Rockhampton and south to Coffs Harbour in New South Wales.

Energy retailer Ergon said there had been unplanned power outages around the Goomeri and Murgon areas, and between Hervey Bay and Childers – both beginning about the time of the quake.
