Sydney Airport was placed under a partial lockdown after an incident involving an AFP officer’s weapon, 2GB reports.
A man was arrested in Terminal 2 of the domestic airport on Wednesday morning, the airport confirmed.
“Sydney Airport is currently assisting Australian Federal Police following an incident earlier this morning,” a spokesperson said.
Eyewitnesses told 2GB’s Ben Fordham that a loud bang was heard in the terminal before a partial lockdown came into force.
“Our source tells us they believe a person at the airport attempted to take a weapon from an AFP officer,” Fordham said.
Footage obtained by 2GB shows armed officers restraining the man. The man exclaims as at least two men pin him to the ground.
“No injuries occurred as a result of the incident. An arrest has been made and the airport is operating normally,” an airport spokesperson said.
The lockdown has since been lifted, and flights were not impacted.
