The Pitt‘s Noah Wyle — and more of the hit HBO series’ stars — are teasing season 3 changes after several shocking cast exits.

“We’re not going to do a holiday next year. We’re just going to do a time of year,” the show’s creator, R. Scott Gemmill, exclusively revealed to Us Weekly while attending PaleyFest’s screening of The Pitt on Sunday, April 12. “It will be a little colder. Close to [winter]. Because nobody wants to be in Pittsburgh in the middle of winter.”

Taylor Dearden, who plays fan-favorite Mel on the show, voiced her support for the upcoming change.

“It’s an especially cold [sound] stage — more than normal stages since normal stages are very cold but this one’s crazy cold,” the actress, 33, told Us. “Because we have a roof. We have a ceiling. And twice it’s been summer and they’ve been in flip flops and shorts and it’s frigid.”

She continued, “It would be great to just have them in pants and boots. Because the amount of blankets and hand warmers that they have strapped to them is [a lot]. It’d be great to be colder for them.”

Dearden also dropped some suggestions for possible cameos — including from her former Sweet Vicious costars, saying, “That would be fun! I mean, Eliza [Bennett] is fabulous. She’s such a good actor. My best friend Dylan [McTee] was the main bad guy on the show. All of them would be great.”

In a separate interview with Us, Wyle, 54, suggested other possibilities for future seasons of the award-winning medical drama.

“ER’s pilot was St. Patrick’s Day, and we’ve now done Fourth of July on The Pitt. Christmas is too many clothes and bulkiness — and we’d all get sick of the decor by the time we were finished shooting,” Wyle said about possible holidays to cover on the show. “Halloween is a little gimmicky. New Year’s Eve is a very busy ER night. So maybe New Year’s Eve.”

HBO Max’s hit series, which premiered in January 2025, follows a group of doctors, interns and nurses at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital’s ER working a single 15-hour shift. The series is led by Dr. Robby (Wyle), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Dr. Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Dr. Javadi (Shabana Azeez).

Numerous stars have left the show since its successful season 1. Tracy Ifeachor didn’t return as Dr. Heather Collins in season 2, with a source telling Us in July 2025 that it was always the plan for her character — who was a fourth-year resident — to go on and be a doctor in future installments of the show.

The same reasoning was used when news broke that Ganesh, 28, wouldn’t reprise her role in season 3.

“It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show, because as writers we’re hard-pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,” Wyle told Variety at PaleyFest.

The actor defended the decision, adding, “Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the story lines fresh, but obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning.”

He concluded,“Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”

New episodes of The Pitt air Thursdays on HBO Max.
