The NSW Liberals are relying on their track record in Kiama at the upcoming byelection, as the shadow of their previous member Gareth Ward looms over the electorate.
Former Shoalhaven councillor Serena Copley was this morning announced as the Liberal candidate for the byelection triggered by the resignation of Ward, who last month was convicted of sex offences against two men.
Liberals are hoping to highlight their record in the region, even if that record was spearheaded by Ward.
“Through strong economic management, the NSW Liberals made huge infrastructure investments locally, but Labor is missing in action, offering nothing new, despite the needs of a fast-growing population,” Speakman said.

Copley missed out on another stint as a councillor in the last local government elections when the Liberal Party failed to submit candidate nominations in time.
Both major parties see themselves as the underdog this time, and with a community independent, businesswoman Kate Dezarnaulds, expected to put up a tough fight, it’s unclear who the voters of Kiama will trust to take over the seat.
Locals told this masthead there was a sense of betrayal in the community after Ward’s conviction.
