Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has joined a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing group – formed to pursue peace in Ukraine after Russia’s invasion – which said it remained ready to deploy a “reassurance force” once the fighting stopped.
French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer co-chaired the meeting of about 30 world leaders, and announced the duo would travel to Washington DC today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

It followed a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska over the weekend.
“The leaders reaffirmed their continued support to Ukraine, and … also commended President Trump’s commitment to providing security guarantees to Ukraine, in which the Coalition of the Willing will play a vital role through the Multinational Force Ukraine, among other measures,” the UK government said in a statement.
“[The leaders] re-emphasised the readiness to deploy a reassurance force once hostilities have ceased, and to help secure Ukraine’s skies and seas and regenerate Ukraine’s armed forces.”
