WA Liberal leader has refused to disendorse her party’s candidate for Mandurah after it was revealed he posted a string of anti-migration posts to his Facebook between 2017 and 2019.

Premier Roger Cook, earlier this morning, called James Hall’s posts repugnant and not representative of the broader community.

“You now see the Liberal party once again preselecting people with crazy extreme right-winged views and quite frankly it’s not good enough,” he said.

Cook called on Mettam to show leadership and disendorse Hall, however she has declined to do so, saying Hall’s apology over the posts was sufficient.

“Those comments are out of step with community expectations,” Mettam said.

“James Hall has apologised for those comments, he regrets those comments.”

She conceded she had not yet spoken to Hall, who apologised, saying he regretted the posts, which were in “poor judgment” and did not reflect his values.

“I regret the nature of some of those historical posts and the language they contain” he said.

During the press conference, Mettam repeatedly provided journalists with the same answer to their questions.

She said Hall had apologised 12 times, she said she welcomed that apology six times and said Hall’s comments were out of step with the community seven times.
