A woman returning home from work stopped in her tracks when she spotted her two dogs watching her from an unexpected place: the roof.
Their owner, known on Reddit as u/Sunfleury, told Newsweek that she was watching her boyfriend’s cat at her house for the week because the change in his work schedule led to longer nights. To keep the cat company, she decided to bring him to her home with her two dogs, Juniper and Odin.
One night, her boyfriend’s cat managed to jump out onto the roof from her bedroom. He refused to come inside, forcing her to move her headboard so she could crawl out of the window and retrieve him, she said
“Normally, my bed’s headboard blocks window access, but I had forgotten to move it back to its original position the night before,” she said. “My dogs were able to watch the cat climb outside and decided to try it out themselves.”
It wasn’t until she returned home from work one day that she discovered her dogs had sneaked onto the roof right above the front porch. She snapped a picture and posted it to Reddit on September 25 to the subreddit channel r/pitbulls, which garnered over 43,000 upvotes and nearly 500 comments.
She said her dogs saw this “one-time opportunity” and they immediately took it. Thankfully, as soon as they saw her, they jumped back inside the house and ran to greet her at the door.
They’re a rambunctious duo with Juniper typically the mind behind their mischievous adventures, she said. But her boyfriend’s cat is the one in charge of the house.
“The dogs are terrified of him, and he likes to use that fear to his advantage to chase them around and to sit in doorways and other areas to ‘trap’ the dogs in a location,” she said. “I wouldn’t be shocked if he was waiting inside near the window at some point.”
With or without the cat’s help, these dogs might have seen the roof as an opportunity for a higher vantage point, which, as territorial animals, dogs enjoy to protect their space, according to an article from Wag Walking. Being higher up allows canines to survey their boundaries. It gives them the advantage to warn if any intruders are present.
Thankfully, her dogs are safe and sound. She immediately put her headboard back, blocking them and the cat from getting any other ideas about going on the roof again.
What Do the Comments Say?
The Reddit post left many viewers laughing about the unexpected greeting the owner received after returning home, while several expressed hope that no dog was injured during their rooftop rowdiness.
“All I see are two good boys trying to help out around the house and clean the gutters. Better give them treats for their hard work,” one Redditor commented.
“You’re supposed to space out your gargoyles…haha keep those pups safe,” another commenter said.
“They look like they’re judging you! What a welcome home,” a third person wrote.
