WWE is making plans for the next Saturday Night’s Main Event special with a date and location locked down.
Saturday Night’s Main Event has a storied history. It initially aired on NBC from 1985 to 1991, filling the “Saturday Night Live” slot. A brief stint on FOX followed in 1992 before the series disappeared.
WWE revived the prime-time special in March 2006 on USA Network, part of the NBCU family, and continued until August 2008. The series returned in December with a show from Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, a week before the Royal Rumble PLE.
The top bouts on the card were Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Championship, Gunther vs. Damian Priest and Finn Balor for the World Heavyweight Championship, and Liv Morgan vs. Iyo Sky for the Women’s World Championship.
A second edition followed on January 25th. The top bouts featured were World Heavyweight Champion Gunther vs. Jey Uso and Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley vs. Nia Jax.
Peacock’s WWE schedule, revealed earlier this year, lists the next two Saturday Night’s Main Event specials: May 24th and July 12th. Notably, the July 12th special will air opposite AEW’s All In event at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, marking AEW’s first PPV in an American baseball stadium. The schedule was later removed.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, WWE is planning its next Saturday Night’s Main Event for May 24th in Tampa, FL, at the Amalie Arena. NXT’s Battleground PLE will follow this on May 25th, also in Tampa.
WWE’s current agreement with NBCU calls for four Saturday Night’s Main Event specials annually. As confirmed on WrestleVotes Radio, the May 24th date is set.
Saturday Night’s Main Event events airs live on NBC and is simulcast on Peacock. This was part of the deal that WWE and NBCU agreed to as they kept SmackDown’s media rights to air on the USA Network. They had the rights to Raw, which has since moved to Netflix. This deal kicked in at the start of January. WWE has drawn strong numbers with these specials.
