Parents (or aunts, uncles, grandparents): if you haven’t already drunk the drone Kool-Aid yourself, the idea of purchasing one for a child can be daunting. I get it — I still have a tendency to bristle at the sound of a small flying object buzzing overhead. Plus, as a parent myself, the thought of putting a complex and potentially costly “toy” in the hands of my inexperienced young pilot isn’t exactly a selling point.

But these days, the positives of drone ownership actually seem to outweigh the negatives: Not only is the market now brimming with affordable, durable, and easy-to-use options, drones are actually a great way to teach STEM skills (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics all play a role in piloting a flying machine) while simultaneously improving their hand-eye coordination outside of the house (rather than in front of a screen).

So whether you’ve got a future aviator on your hands, or a kiddo that just wants a new way to have fun outdoors, there’s a drone for them that everyone can feel good about. Below, in no particular order, we give you some options out there.
